4G fleet data logger — change-triggered

Record what the machine does, upload what changed, and do not pay for silence.

The problem with always-on logging

A logger that streams every frame is easy to build and expensive to run. A fleet of a few hundred machines generates a very large volume of unchanged data: the same pressure, the same temperature, the same state, minute after minute. Most of that traffic tells your platform nothing it did not already know — and someone pays for it, either in SIM cost or in platform storage.

What we do instead

  • Change-triggered upload — the unit reports when a value crosses a threshold or changes, not on a fixed beat.
  • Scheduled wake-up — a heartbeat interval you choose, so the machine still reports "alive and unchanged" without streaming.
  • Offline buffering — a pit, a tunnel or a dead zone does not lose the record; the backlog goes out when the link is back.
  • Hardware watchdog — the unit recovers itself instead of needing someone on site.
  • Power behaviour — DC 10–30 V from the machine; sleep and wake cycles are part of the configuration, not an afterthought.

Where the data comes from

CAN directly on most trucks, buses, cranes and port equipment; RS232 or RS485 where the machine already exposes a serial port, or where the CAN segment is closed. Your CAN protocol stays with you: you decide which data points are logged, and we deliver those values through an API rather than asking for your definitions.

Positioning

GPS + BeiDou positioning is available, with geofence support, so a movement or an exit from a defined area becomes an event rather than a continuous track. For a fleet that means fewer messages and clearer exceptions — the platform sees the events that matter instead of a wall of coordinates.

How to size it

  • How many machines, and how many data points per machine.
  • Which changes are events, and how often each event happens.
  • Whether positioning is needed for all machines or only some.
  • Whether the unit must survive an unplanned power cut.

Start from the CAN-to-4G telematics page for the product, or the API page for how the data is delivered.

FAQ

How much traffic does change-triggered upload save?
It depends on how often values change; the point is that stable periods cost almost nothing.
Does it keep logging while offline?
Yes — records are buffered locally and sent when the link returns.
Is positioning mandatory?
No. GPS + BeiDou and geofence are options for fleets that need location events.
